windows xp pro iso download zipU.S. Rep. Jason Chaffetz has fired back at a fellow Republican lawmaker's jab at his decision to leave Congress at the end of this year.
In an interview Monday with conservative talk show host Hugh Hewitt, Rep. Mike Coffman, R-Colo., described Chaffetz's decision to run for Utah governor as "paranoid."
"Jason is having a full meltdown. He went through all of this last night," Coffman said on "The Morning Jolt" radio show. "It’s a bad situation for Jason."
In early October, Chaffetz announced he would not seek re-election to his 10th Congressional District seat, effective Jan. 3.
Earlier this month, Chaffetz told The Salt Lake Tribune his decision was made to try to break gridlock in Washington, D.C.
But in his statement announcing he would not seek re-election, Chaffetz said his future plans have "always been about returning to the private sector to lead companies, serve on boards, or fight for what I believe is right for America."
Coffman criticized Chaffetz for what he called a "dramatic, 180-degree change in plans."
"That means he's not going to fight for the Tenth District of Utah in Congress, he's going to fight for a governor's mansion," Coffman said. "That means he's not going to do the work he swore to do."
Coffman said Chaffetz's "paranoid" decision was "one of the saddest events" in his life.
"I’m not going to say that I know what Jason’s going through, but if you’re a parent and your child gets in trouble, it’s very hard not to be emotional," Coffman said. "I’m trying not to be emotional, but it’s difficult. It’s a good life lesson for Jason. He’s got a lot of thinking to do."
Coffman said he received calls from Chaffetz’s staffers on Monday, confirming he was no longer a congressman.
Chaffetz did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the comments, which were first reported by The Washington Free Beacon.
